– A Poem by Bongani Kigundu
I built a fort last night
cuddled myself into layers of pillows
surrounding me in comfort
& just enough strength to withstand
the anxieties of the world
walls to keep safety
& to remind me
of times where my only worries were
how late will it be this time?
Tonight?
I can’t sleep
I am kept awake instead by tears
wishing someone would drag me to dreamland
hoping it all ends with a snuggle
a well wish
a prayer
or any words from a book of life
a kiss on the forehead
& a soft soft Good Night
please don’t let my head bugs bite?
